I began my day early, leaving my place at 6:35am to walk to where my tour bus would pick me up. I was set for a wine tour of the Pokolbin region in Hunter Valley which began in the 1820’s. It’s the oldest wine region in Australia. I saw a cool sign on the way... all the cities and how far they are! First we went to McGuigan wines. I talked up the gentleman that was pouring wines for our group of 17 people and he told me about this special reserve wine. I asked if he had the bottle open and he said to see him after our group tasting, so I did. It was a blend of can and Shiraz. It was great! I felt pretty special to be able to taste this very special wine which they only opened for me. We continued our wine tour to First Creek. I really enjoyed the wines here. It was a cute little place. Then Hermitage Road Cellars where we had wine with cheese pairings. It was nice to taste cheeses specific to that region. Right afterwards we enjoyed lunch. After I finished eating I walked around the premises and spread Chris’s ashes near this beautiful pond. We continued to another winery called Lion’s Gate, then went across the street to a distillery. I tasted some wonderful liqueurs!! Afterwards we went to taste chocolate. We has a two hour trip back to the city. I was excited because I had reservations at the Tower in Sydney: a revolving restaurant high up in the sky! It takes 70 minutes for the restaurant to do the full 360 turn. I had a great dinner and even made friends with the couple next to me. A great end to a great day!
